In Santa Ponsa almost all hotels are open at the beginning of May and will remain open until the middle or end of October. The high season is considered to be June/July/August and September. This is when all of the hotels in Santa Ponsa are regularly fully booked and when the prices are naturally higher.

The resort is always busy during this period and there is a great summer atmosphere and plenty going on.
If you travel in these months you will of course benefit from the amazing weather and enjoy long, hot summer days. Plan ahead and book your hotel well in advance to enjoy the best prices and to ensure that you get a room at your chosen hotel.

Now, if you like things a little quieter you might choose to visit Santa Ponsa in May or October. There are still plenty of people around, but just in fewer numbers and there is a more chilled out atmosphere.

The weather will also still be lovely and sunny and often hot during the daytime for sunbathing, although the odd rain shower isn´t unusual during these months. Hotel prices will be more competitive in these months and some great bargains can be found, but again, plan ahead as many savvy travellers are aware of this and snap up the great deals in advance!

As Santa Ponsa is a summer resort it means that during the winter months most of the hotels, restaurants, bars and shops close, except very few. There are however some hotels in Santa Ponsa that during the winter months attract regular pensioners, cyclists and hikers that choose to make Santa Ponsa their home for long winter holidays.

One of the top hotels in Majorca considering value for money is Holiday Park Apartments Santa Ponsa. Visit their website at www.sunnymajorca.com where you can make your booking online with a small deposit and guarantee an enjoyable stay in Santa Ponsa.

Together with excellent arrival and departure facilities and several VIP lounges, Majorca´s airport is the hub of many European airlines. They see a great benefit in the number of passengers travelling to the airport and are responding to the increasing demand for more flights to this Balearic Island.

With visitors in mind the large, modern airport of Majorca has a number of multilingual staff spread over the many arrival and departure information booths, eager to answer the questions of passengers.

There are a number of “duty free” stores by the company Aldeasa and also some independent ones situated around Mallorca Airport specialising in everything from perfumes and cigarettes to make-up, jewellry and well known clothing and shoes brands, all at good prices.

Food outlets are also spread out around the airport so somewhere to grab a bite to eat or a quick drink is never far away.

Airlines flying to the airport of Mallorca are as follows:

From the United Kingdom:

Ryanir, Easyjet, Monarch, Thomson, Thomas Cook, Bmibaby, Jet2, Iberia, Spanair, Aireuropa, Airberlin and Aer Lingus.

Airlines flying from Ireland:

Ryanair and Aer Lingus.

The average flight time is between 2 hrs. and 2 hrs. 40 mins from England, Ireland and Wales depending on which airport you fly from and around 3 hrs. from Scotland.

When you arrive at Palma airport there are signposts in English that clearly direct you to the luggage pick-up hall and then once outside the airport there are signs directing you to the taxis or buses.

If you have a coach or shuttle bus pre-arranged you will usually find a representative from the company inside the airport at your arrival gate.

It takes around 25 minutes to reach Santa Ponsa in a taxi. Shuttle buses and coaches will take longer.

While some online travel agents can offer lower prices for some package holidays to Santa Ponsa, their secret lies within chartering flights at irregular hours. Do your math! It is cheaper to fly at less popular hours of the day. Flying in the very early hours of the morning and late hours of the evening is much cheaper and this is why some package holidays are available at lower prices. Rarely you come across a well priced package holiday with flights departing at decent, more popular hours. In recent years more and more people are booking their flights and their hotel separately and in doing so they can choose the most convenient flights for themselves, at the time they prefer to travel.

Direct hotel reservation: Today almost every hotel has a direct booking system available and Majorca being such an established touristic destination has proven ready for this.

Alternatively the most trusted name in the industry, www.hotels4u.com (part of the Thomas Cook group) has a list of the major hotels in Santa Ponsa at competitive prices.

The pros and cons of self-catering versus all-inclusive.

The age and type of people that are travelling and what sort of holiday they want to have will more than likely determine what type of accommodation is chosen.

Families with children usually choose between self-catering and all-inclusive, as they seem to offer the best value for money, but in very different ways. Let´s take a look:

Self-catering:

There are various self-catering “apart-hotels”, as they are known, in Santa Ponsa.
Most consist of a one bedroom apartment with a separate bathroom and a lounge/dining area with a small kitchen. They usually sleep up to 4 people and offer plenty of space and are a comfortable way to enjoy your holiday. As they have a fridge and cooking facilities they are ideal for families that prefer to have the freedom of preparing small meals and snacks for themselves. This obviously cuts down on the cost of eating out and provides flexibility, so is a wise economical choice and many people find that once they try self-catering, they never go back. There are 2 large supermarkets and various smaller ones within the resort, so stocking up with shopping is not a problem and they all have a choice of popular famous brand name products you would find back home.

A list of self-catering apart-hotels in Santa Ponsa can be found by clicking here.

All-inclusive:
In the last couple of years more hotels have decided to go down the all-inclusive route.
It is fair to say that this is usually due to the lack of customers that they were attracting prior to offering this service. These are tough times for everyone, so it is obvious to see why all-inclusive packages are also a popular choice for families, as all food and drink at the hotel is included in the price. There are a couple of things to consider however, before deciding that all-inclusive is the best option.

Firstly the hotels offering this package generally try to keep the costs of their food and drink as low as they possibly can, which means that the customers do not usually get premium quality products. So there may be plenty of food to choose from, but what does it consist of and what does it taste like?

Secondly, it is common in all-inclusive hotels for the bar to have a cut off time at midnight. This means that there is a massive rush just before midnight as everyone tries to stock up on drinks before they close the bar, so expect long queues and sometimes disappointment if you just miss the dead line!

Thirdly, the food tends to get repetitive, so holiday makers often feel the need to venture outside to resort restaurants for evening meals. This obviously means they unexpectedly and reluctantly eat (quite literally) into their holiday spending money.

Check-in and check-out:

Check-in time at most hotels is 2 or 3pm. and check-out time is usually 11am.
Sometimes a shower room is available for guests to use after check-out time and late check-out is sometimes available at some hotels. This would have to be requested in person at the hotel on the day of departure, and there would usually be a small charge.
